your audience is 2003 students. so i would use a fairly colloquial tone.

your audience is 2003 students, but they're hsc students. (ie u assume they're intelligent... hehehe... ^.^)

start off with a joke... or an anecdote... or something funny (you get credit points for engendering urself towards ur audience)
then go into ur analyses... let the analyses be thorough and in-depth but use fairly light-hearted, colloquial tone...
after all ur hardcore stuf, finish off with a killer conclusion; either explain ur joke from the beginning, or continue ur joke from the beginning, or go for something entirely different... as long as it's something that's catchy and gets the audience interested.

lol... depends on ur teacher ^^

one of my english teachers is really funny.. she finds sexual connotations in anything.. really funny...

jane eyre... mr rochester is described as a "pillar"...
she goes, "what do you think of when i say, pillar?"
(apparently it's supposed to be a phallic symbol ???)

so my joke for the speech i did for her was rather... suggestive? hehe..
