Umm...yes. If teachers have too many things to read, then they can't be bothered to decipher your writing.

Yes - if they can't read it, they have to stop and ask someone else, and then they lose the flow of your argument, making you look bad, and losing marks.

It needs to be legible, otherwise they can't understand what you're saying, which pretty much speaks for itself I guess. I've been let down in the past with my shitty handwriting, but you'll find it extremely difficult to find any help in order to improve your handwriting...I know I certainly did...but I worked on it by writing a lot and practicing writing fast with legibility and eventually I got it up to a half-decent standard.

I'm not sure what others think...but is it jsut me, or is cursive pretty much useless? I find cursive writing much more difficult to read than normal print...and it always took me longer to write.

i like cursive - if you've been taught to do it properly you write a whole heap faster (the key is the way you join your letters together) and it is completely legible.
is your writing really that bad though, elizabethy? coz if it is, u are able to get reader-writers, computers etc. if the board decides that it truly is illegible and will be too difficult for the marker.

Writing I'm fairly sure does matter, I think that I lost a few marks in my trials based almost solely on my handwriting and the fact that they couldn't read some words (they circled them) and the circled words were almost always the most important part of the sentence!!!!!!

im sure if ur writing is really so bad that u r losing potential marks because of it that ur school will support an application for a reader-writer
Actually I'm not sure if I lost marks because of it or not... I think its just a convenient excuse that I'm willing to use to cover up the fact that I didn't get full marks for everything. Plus my writing isn't thaaaaaaat bad and if I have a bit more space then it should be better cause the BoS notepads have bigger spaces than the school ones and part of the problem was my writing on the lower lines was getting in the way of the writing on the lines above it (yes I am stupid and didn't write on every 2nd line).... ok rant finished... now.

not significant

As long as your writing style and content is good and you have satisfactory handwriting, you'll be fine.

As what Abtari said, as long as it's legible, I don't see the problem.

An english teacher told me that you should write however you're comfortable with. She said that if you print faster and/or more legibly then you should print. Personally my writing is kind of a hybrid, I used to print but then it started to get slurred lol

Up until the beginning of year 12 i used to print everything and not only is it a longer longer than cursive, i reckon it starts to hurt your hand after a while (or maybe thats just exam conditions for you!! :D)
Anyways, our teachers gave us a hint that if we trained ourselves to write cursive properly we'd be able to fit more in, in less time, so i did, and i haven't looked backed since... I reckon that perhaps the marking teachers are more comfortable with cursive, old school technique etc...
Another thing, handwriting DOES matter... Its all about confidence.. If the markers are able to read your writing without having to decipher it, then they are more confident about giving marks out.. sounds stupid but its true!

light at the end of the tunnel...train...*groan*

yeah, i agree, the markers arent susposed to give out marks 4 somethig if they have 2 guess what u wrote - so while ur not in that sense being penalised for it, u r definately denying urself potential marks.
