hard drive ticking? (1 Viewer)

umm my hdd is making ticking noises and it wont load. ive only had it for 2 months and its got all my valuable work in it and need it asap since trials is tomorrow. the thing is still spinning and its still in the bios...
i have heard something about putting the hdd in the freezer and tapping it, etc. but im scared if i put it in the freezer, i cant get a new one with the warranty.

please help me

haha its gonna blow up :p. Hmmm, what kind of ticking noise is it? And what message does it say when you try to boot from it?

its not my c:

i cant open my computer...it just never shows

and from my research the freezer trick is quite successful

but the warranty issue still bothers me

Well think about it this way, if the freezer trick doesn't work, you'll lose your data anyways by getting it replaced, so... :p

ergh, yes, one of my older hard disks made those clicking noises. replaced it.

Ticking or knocking noises are usually due to a bad head. The drive has had it.

Yep. Happened to mine in January. Kept ticking then just stopped.

Sending your drive off to a professional data recovery centre will cost thousands. These people can recover data from a dead drive by taking it apart and reading data straight off the platters.

Yes most people have heard of it. But don't mean to break it to you, but placing your drive in the freezer doesn't magically revitalise the drive and give it another 9 lives. No matter what you read on the net, it doesn't mean freezing it is going to work for you and your particular problem.

Read your manufacturer's warranty conditions.

There would be moisture inside the bag already.
