2-(5x4) / 7
= -18/7
= -2.57 ( 2 dp )

36/6 x 36/6
(Since 36/6 = 6)
6x6 = 36

2-5x4/7
= 2 - 20/7
= -6/7
= -0.857

Multiplication and division before addition and subtraction.

Yeah, it's all to do with order of operations.

1. 2-5x4 / 7
= 2 – 5 x 4 / 7
= 2 – 20 / 7
= 2 – 2.857142857
= –0.8571428571

or it could be:

2-5x4 / 7
= [2–5x4]/7
= [2–20]/7
= –18/7
= –2.571428571

2. 36/6 x 36/6
= 36 / 6 x 36 / 6
= 6 x 36 / 6
= 216 / 6
= 36
which is the correct way of doing it with no grouping symbols, or
36/6 x 36/6
= (36/6) x (36/6)
= 6 x 6
=36
So no big deal there.

Make sure you know all about order of operations, particularly when using your calculator.
