Hi all. Don't you just love the HSC? I sure do. Anyway... I'm stressing so much because I went on an ATAR calculator and it stated my ATAR would be approximately 50. Now, I need around a 70 to get in to the uni I want (that's not including special considerations/SEAS, if I get accepted). I'm sorry if there are threads like this already, and I'm sure, but I couldn't find anything.

Anyway, here's the RAW marks that I think I will get in the exams

Information Technology Exam: 90/100
Modern History: 68/100
English Standard: 73/100
Software Design and Development: 50/100 (yeah, I'm absolutely terrible at this. Ironic, though, because I'm almost fluent in c# and python, it's just the theory stuff that I can't wrap my head around.)***
General Mathematics: 70/100.

So those are the RAW marks, and those are what I entered in to the ATAR calculator. It outputted a nice 50-ish. However, perhaps I was using it wrong. I found something called the 'rawmarkdatabase' here but I'm unsure how to use it. I read that it was the average of the TWM and Aligned exam mark? so essentially you would just average the two and THAT is what you would enter in to the ATAR calculator, NOT your raw mark?

I'm stressing so much I'm about to pull out my hair. Can you guys please point me in the right direction and give me some words of wisdom about what my ATAR might be?

Thanks so much.

***(Referring to above), what irks me is the fact that I'm good at computer science: My friend is in his second year of uni, and he attends lectures and tutorials, yet he frequently resorts to sending me his project file, viewing my screen via skype, while I show HIM how to do his project. It annoys me because I can code at that level, yet because I'm bad at some other things I might get pushed back and unable to do a course I am clearly capable of doing :/

Halp guise.

inb4 'L2SEARCH' or something... I hope not :(

Based on your marks I think you're going to hit 74-75. Maybe you're using it wrong :)

Just updating this thread with hope of some answers for my next question...
How do you guys think my ranks would affect my estimated ATAR of around 75 given the marks in the original post?

Ranks --- Position in Exam:
English Standard: 30/123. --- 28/122.
General Maths: 37/96. --- 46/96.
Modern History: 18/31. --- 22/31.
Software Design and Development: 3/3. --- 3/3.
Information Technology: 1/16. --- 1/16.

I know ranks are considered... don't know about the 'position in exam'.. i think that's just a clerical thing for my school.

Anyway, how do you think my ATAR would sway with these ranks? :/

Thanks!

What is your school rank?

Without it, I can't provide an as "accurate" estimate.

Hey Aysce, I just had my software exam and I think I did a little better than expected... I think i got around 65/100 for software development. Do you think my atar would change much with software going from 50/100 to 65/100? How much?
Thanks :)

Edit: I'm trying to calculate it myself using numbers I'm guestimating from the raw mark database.

RAW -----> ALIGNED

IT 90/100 ----- > 92/100
Modern History 68/100 ----- > 74/100
English Standard 70/100 ---- > 80/100
Software Design 65/100 ---- > 80/100
General Maths 70/100 ------- > 80/100

With those numbers the average of 3 calculators gives me ~77.8
Taking in to account my average ranks

~76.3?

Do you think 76.3 is a realistic number? Anyway can you do a calculation on your own too because I'm probably off :)
