my personal favourite is "after the end" by sugarquill headmistresses. it is the fanfic of all harry potter fanfics, i think...
in fact a lot of sugarquill stuff is good. test of time, Hermione queen of witches (her diary...pretty funny stuff) and so on. don't really like speculative fic (exception of AtE) but prefer the "missing moment" or "alternate point of view" variety.
but there are mounds and mounds of hp crap on the net. hard to sift thru, esp if it's fanfiction.net (whoa)

I have always wondered; what does JK Rowling feel about people writing torrid stories of kinky sex about her character? I doubt she had in mind Harry and Draco tag-teaming Hermione or something.
Also, has anyone noticed how incredibly late it took for the HP characters to go through puberty? I'm thinking that's a political correctness thing.

has anyone read any fanfic that doesnt have sex in it? I read one that was pretty good, i actually liked some parts of it (the spells) better than the original series, but the person who wrote it was an anime fan.

everyone who loves stories with Draco in them should read Mayas, fanfics... she only has two, Underwater Light, a very mild Harry/Draco, they only kiss a little and not until heaps later and Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing...Rat? also a very mild Hermione/Draco, they only kiss once in the last chapter, but seriously, it is the FUNNIEST story ever written, seriously, Maya is the best writer, shes bloody amazing.... i accidently reread UL before i read HBP and i got a little confused cos in UL theres a spy at Hogwarts who is helping Voldie abduct kids... ahh!!!!! sooo good...
both stories are finished, UL has 23 chapters and the Bouncing Rathas 12... go read them!!!!!!!!!!!!

pfft i don't know if anyone has put this up here but it is a beautiful fic about Tom Riddle's hogwarts days, and although it's contradicted coz of HBP i thought the author was very creative and insightful.

omg i found the wrongest (not a word i know) fanfic on the portkey...
basically, harry went to stay with the grangers for the summer (before 5th year). the grangers are nudists. harry impregnates hermione and mrs granger. ginny, neville and susan bones have a threesome somewhere. it's absolutely disgusting. and the funniest part?? it's not a parody....it's completely serious!!!!! i mean, harry/hermione creeps me out normally...even low-key stuff, because it is completely OOC. but this was completely fucked.
