Head start? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I'm in Year 10 atm and wish to get a head start with Year 11 (next year). I was wondering if there are any recommended textbooks for these subjects so I can do light study during the hols:

- Bio
- Advanced English
- Chemistry
- Maths B (3U maths, I think)
- Economics

I'm in yr 10 too and doing the same thing. There is HEAPS in maths, especially the extension is challenging. Try the Excel books.

I bought Conquering Chemistry and Cambridge 3U Maths, and they both seem pretty good~

What's wrong with the Excel ones? Personally I found them rather good. Just wondering...since I am more than happy to look for other books if there are better ones.

Maths 2U and 3U - Fitzpatrick or Cambridge ORRRR Maths In Focus for EASY foundation!

Excel books teach you the basics and imo, the only really good thing about them is that they have worked solutions. But otherwise, they're not good enough to get you a good mark and if you're looking for textbooks, try Fitzpatrick or Cambridge

For chem - either Conquering Chemistry or Jacaranda

And for English, don't look for any textbooks, just find out what texts you'll be studying in year 11 and start reading them

I've already read many of the popular classics like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Vanity Fair, the Jane Austen books, Dickens etc, do they mostly do classics like these?Sorry...as you can see I have many questions xD

No, for year 11, schools are allowed to choose what texts you study so ask your teachers or maybe students from the year above you to find out what you'll be doing. If I remember correctly though, all schools have to do an AOS (area of study) in year 11 and for that you'll need one related text of your choice, so maybe start looking into that as well?

My current school exposed us to the concept of Area of Study (I'm in Year 10 like you guys xD). We did Physical Journey (but of course, in the actual AoS for Yr 11 and 12 it'd be different)
Basically, it's like your school gives you a prescribed text (something done in class) about the AoS and you find a related text (outside of class) to complete assessment tasks

Don't go buying textbooks now, I'd say, according to what I did anyway, use mathsonline. It is probably the best idea say if you want to begin a particular topic, you will at least have some guidance. It is how I started learning 2/3 unit maths...

Some tutor i met from James Ruse said always buy Cambridge.
Lots of you are doing 3 unit maths :L im assuming you are all really good at it? or just giving it a go? I was going to try it too.

I use mathsonline at the moment, but I'd like to see if I can download pdf.'s of textbooks so I can go through some of the content in the holidays. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not sure about the texts for next year, I'm almost 80% sure we don't get told until January (I live in QLD, if that means anything).
Thanks for the suggestions about Maths/English/Chem, are there any recommended textbooks for Economics (preferably, since I know zilch about it) and/or Biology?

its not what material you have its how you use it, personally i hated cambridge 3u books, they were too fat

excel IIRC had short chapters and wasnt tedious like a textbook, imo fantastic for learning ahead
