Hi..i am a new user here. As per my knowledge different wires will have a specification for maximum current. Once you reach a certain specified current, you can indeed tend to heat up the wire. There are safe ratings given but there is also a point called the "fusing current" where the heat goes up too high and the wires can burn/melt.
