Hey

Does anyone know any good quotes to help support the question: How Does Coleridge’s poetry enable responders to imagine other worlds?

Thanks

That was harder than i thought!

How Does Coleridge’s poetry enable responders to imagine other worlds?

Ok im certianly not an expert so only go with it if you understand. Cos its really hard to write something and talk about it when you dont understand. And im only gonna be brief and you can build your own ideas from mine cos i had trouble with my essay question. :)

Firstly it would be good to mention the Romantic beliefs cos its the interconnection of man-nature-divine that provides the basis for everything Coleridge talks about.

You should mention the conversational tone that Coleridge uses in Lime-tree and Frost at Midnight. The tone involves the responder and allows us to take the journey with Coleridge, and therefore experience with him the transition into the imaginary world.

In FAM pick bits from the first stanza cos it sets the atmosphere and has a hypnotic/mysterious effect, sort of preparing us for something. Line 1 and lines 5-6 are good - alliteration of 's' sound, the mention of "secret ministry" and "absrtuser musings". Line 13: " the thin blue flame" is the catalyst that takes Coleridge from reality and sets off his imaginative journey.

Also in the second last stanza when he uses all the nature imagery. He describes it in such detail that its as though we can see it all through his eyes (this is the same in Lime-tree "And I am glad / As I myself were there!" lines 46,47).

In Kubla in the 3rd stanza line starting "A damsel with a dulcimer", the indent is supposed to show that he is speaking to the responder directly. This is what my teacher said, so im not sure.

** i know its not much. Its actulally not that easy! Im hopeless with Kublah and havent got Mariner yet, so i hope even a little bit of it helps. Good luck with it and let me know how you go!
