when they say x = e^-2X for x=0.6 and x=0.7 ....................

You first have to rearrange to like ----> fx = e^-2x - x or fx = x - e^-2x
But how do you know which one to rearrange to? they both give different values if you sub x = 0.6 or 0.7

Heres another example:

lnx = cosx

you will have to rearrange to fx = cosx -lnx or fx = lnx -cosx

How do you know which one to arrange to?

Should not matter. Roots are preserved when you multiply a function by -1 (flip around x axis).
