Dont get smart with me!! If you had a high enough IQ to study Japanese u'd understand what I meant! Unfortunatly, ur the type of person who will probably end up working as my cleaner so I mustn't be too rude.

it helps you understand what levl class you're going to be in..

are you doing it as an elective? or major?

i mean..if i go, and i fail it, then i have to do JAPN2B, in which i ... dont want to do. cuz i wanna do at least 3b.
:)
i dont even know if you 'have' to do this... i'll see if i can find the page... its probably just..better or something..

I asked via email and you only have to do the test if you want to be graded (in other words if your a nerd) into a class. Otherwise you just enrol into 3B according to Ms Okamoto.

hmm it's probably not a big deal. like if you get into a class and you find it too easy/hard i'm sure you could talk to the staff about it. also, i told some usyd guy that if i'm in a class with other jap students i might not be able to follow since i've forgotten 90% of the hsc courses already. and he said that everyone's in the same boat. so yeh, don't worry.

oh right.. well i'll go anyway :)

since i wanna get my uni card as well..
so might as well.

and if thats the case.. yeah. i'll just enrol into 3B.

but if doing jap as an elective a waste of time?

Doing it as an elevtive is a waste of time. Your better to give it your full attn like a major or else do something that u can use to further enhance ur degree skills. Doing Jap as an elective will only give u a general outlinbe of the language and not give u the detail and profficiency u'd attain by majoring in it.

That's not necessarily true. For example, you may only want to take Japanese out of interest, so you may have at least a working knowledge of the language when you travel. Majoring in a language will usually mean an in-depth linguistic study as well as "living language".

What I am trying to say is that unless you intend to learn Japanese for academic purposes you don't need to major in it. For things like interest, travel-level proficiency and leisure reading a minor is perfectly sufficient.

even if you major in japanese you still won't come out of it being able to fluently discuss the errm socio-economic status of post 1960s contemporary japanese society

ahah, i just made that up and i have no idea what it means but you get the jist.

but its an elective...

which means.. whatever i choose. will have the same meaning...
i can't major in that area..its just an interest..

which also means.. its not a waste of time.
good. :)
done.

A blazing inferno of blood and despair...
Japanese might have been entertaining for high school but unless you're prepared to dedicate your rest of the life in a country with a sliding economy and escalating unemployment rate, not to mention difficult lifestyle and poor work conditions, then you're wasting your University years! Koizumi's reforms aren't doing shit! The country is still as bad as I left it almost 3 years ago.
