Help! Law at Sydney/UTS? Very confused (1 Viewer)

I began studying international and global studies and law at Sydney Uni last semester. I have deferred this semester as I essentially hated last semester. I think it was a combination of not being ready for uni, being burnt out from the HSC, not liking Sydney Uni in general and also not keeping up as I began to socialise and work a lot more.

I feel so torn and disillusioned as to what to do next year. I want to continue studying law. I feel like I don't have a very good idea of what law is actually like, as I only did one foundations subject where I attended perhaps 4 lectures.
I have internally transferred to media/comms and law at Sydney Uni. My dilemma arises in that this is a 6 year degree at Sydney Uni, and if I add in PLT and an exchange and all the rest of it, it is going to take me a long time to graduate. I am fairly sure I don't have interest in studying international studies as I once thought. I feel like communications will be lighter, more fun and is more suited to my personality.

I am very tempted to transfer to UTS and study comms/law there. It is only a 5 year degree and I feel like I would prefer UTS as a uni from what my friends say. I would love to gauge what people think. Can anyone recommend UTS for law and communications? Am I making a mistake and throwing away my opportunity to study law at Sydney just because last semester didn't work for me?

If you think UTS will resonate better with you, then transfer. A shorter degree also sounds much, much better.

What did you not like about your experience at Sydney Law so far? i.e. you don't like law (content wise), you haven't socially settled in etc. etc. this is important to know

I didn't socially fit in, I had classes timetabled every day and just felt anxious going. I hated the international studies part a lot more. I actually liked my foundations tutorial for the most part

If you don't like the USYD atmosphere then don't be afraid to look elsewhere. USYD law may have the prestige, but that doesn't necessarily make it the best university. It's a subjective thing, so if you think that UTS is better for you, then go there.

But I wouldn't consider the length of the degree as one of the factors here. You may be in uni for a longer time at USYD, but that is not a bad thing.

I'm doing a straight Law degree at UTS. We're moving to trimesters next year, and I'm picking up summer courses during the course of my degree (I'm studying part-time). It's really flexible at UTS. Would recommend.

+ Our timetabling is a lot easier. Within the first three weeks of a new semester you can pick up/drop subjects and move classes without needing to e-mail anyone.

I heard law at UTS has a much more relaxed atmosphere. I talked to someone who transferred from UTS to USYD this year and she wants to return to UTS simply because she likes the atmosphere there.
