Hi,

For my upcomming assesment, the question is: great texts take the pain of existence and try to make sense of it

I'm doing Yeats for my text. I have no idea what its actually asking. Could someone please explain what this question is taking about ? Thanks !

Too late for this assessment, I guess, but I assume your teacher expects you to look at some of the "pain" in Yeats' poetry, such as growing old and worry about losing creativity and love which is unrequieted (unreturned.) He, and other poets, write about these subjects trying to find a way of coping with the pain and to try to see a point for it all. Song writers do this all the time too, of course. How effectively, in your opinion, does Yeats manage to do this? Cheers.
