Help- Next years HSC subject selection (1 Viewer)

This year i'm doing:
Advanced English (2U)
Mathematics (2U)
Business Studies (2U)
Economics (2U)
Information Processes and Technology (2U)
Society and Culture (2U)

I was thinking of dropping Society and Culture, as i dont think it would have the focus to do a PIP, but not sure. Does anyone have suggestions? Should i continue with 12 units as a backup, or drop a subject and focus on the others?

Hmm, do you think that you can focus on a PIP for next year, and do well in your other subjects? If you feel that you cannont handle the workload of a PIP, it might be better for you to drop S&C and do 10 units. However, keep S&C for now, and see whether you think you can cope with the PIP.

Personally, I always think it's best to do 12 units for, as you said, back up. If you're not confident in a particular subject, it's good to have back up subject, or if possible and desired, you can drop the troubling subject. And besides, you can always start with the 12 units and then if you find that you can't cope with the workload, you can drop down to 10 units .

i guess it varies with different schools, but i'm wondering, during when was subject reshuffling able to be done? straight after the yearlies, or does there need to be a couple of weeks/months?

Doing 12 Units is a good idea, that way if you do really bad in one subject on the day you have that "back up" subject. Otherwise, doing just the 10 you are locked into those counting toward your UAI.

Personally, I did 12 Units. I did 10 that were strong and my last 2 were a "fun" subject, that I was not great at, but enjoyed doing.

In the end, it is up to you and what you can cope with, study-wise.

Thanks for the advice, I do not have to choose until week 2 next term and by then we should have our results for yearlies... Still doing the exams now, 4 down and 2 to go...

a pip is a personal interest project(between 3000 and 5000 words ) that goes for the whole of year 12 and is the major assessment for society and culture

like everyone has said just do 12 as a back up and then if one subject isnt working for you, then drop it. pips apparently do take heaps of work but if you think you will get a good result for it then finish with 12....it wont hurt plus also you should take into consideration what you might want to do after school, is society and culture relevant?

I feel like shoving calculators up the arse of the person(s) reponsible for introducing more content to the Mathematics syllabus (especially Circle Geometry), instead of deleting portions of it like they did with the Chemistry and Physics (with 15% reduced fat content) syllabuses.

The Physics syllabus pisses me off. Seriously, I hate those damn long answer type things to do with society. e.g. What is the impact of the telescope on society? Or someshit like that.

I want more problems to solve. I really like circuit theory and there was only one question in the damn yearly worth only 1 mark but it was a multi-step solution as well, not of of those plug 'n' Play "problems" where they give you 2 figures of a 3 variable equation.

Damn I hate the way some circuits are drawn, parallel connected equipment may look like they are connected in series when I'm confused.

Uni physics is much more mathematical, and completely different to the HSC course.
