Yes, I know I don't go to UNSW but it seems that most people doing LLB who are active go to UNSW so here is my question:

Where can I find the relavent piece of legislation/regulation dealing with transit officers? (the ones wearing grey on Cityrail)
I can't seem to find it anywhere. If anyone finds it, can you tell me where to look for it? I suck in research. :p
Thanks.

This regulation seems to be the most relevant:

Police Department (Transit Police) Regulation 2000 (NSW)
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_reg/pdpr2000420/

It appears as though the Commissioner can simply give instructions to the transit police willy nilly. I haven't been able to find anything about their actual powers. Bit annoying, really.

The CityRail website states that "revenue protection officers are empowered under the Rail Safety Act 1993 (NSW) to ask passengers to produce a valid ticket for their journey", but I can't see where.

<hr>
Other relevant pieces of legislation that I came across:

Passenger Transport Act 1990 (NSW)
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/pta1990248/

Transport Administration Amendment Act 1988 (NSW)
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/taa1988305/

Transport Administration (General) Regulation 2000 (NSW)
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_reg/tar2000451/

Transport Administration (State Transit Authority--Fares) Order 1991 (NSW)

Man, that was tedious.
Whoa.. thanks Lazarus and Moonlight!

How did you find it? I typed in keywords like "transit officer", "cityrail" etc and couldn't come up with the relavent piece of legislation?

Thanks again. :)

EDIT:

addz: No, I didn't get a fine. I'm just really interested in their particular occupation and what they are able/unable to do. :D

Haha, nice. I'm only in here every few days, since I'm not an LLB@UNSW boy. :p

I got caught and interrogated by inspectors twice today
Were you caught twice on the same bus or two seperate trips? If the same trip you can only receive one fine.

No problem, but you should have learned your lesson the second time. ;)

If you're caught once chances are it's a patrol day and they'll see you again.

No, because to do so may incriminate myself. Besides, the circumstances were of the kind that nobody here will be able to emulate. :)
