HELP!!! Postmodern crime?? (1 Viewer)

for our crime assessment, a major part is looking at the way in which crime has progressed and changed through the passage of time...and ive been...allocated....postmodern crime...

now far as i know a postmodern crime is one where the conventions of crime have been reversed, the detectives are imperfect, the crime unsolved, clues left for the reader to solve....

is that right..? or am i way off track??

also, does nyone know any texts that could be used for this kind of study..?

The first important thing is to realise (loosely) what postmodernism is; a criticism of the modern and a fracturing of traditional boundaries. This means that a postmodern crime fiction would be far from traditional, however it is more than simply saying one's detective must be less than a knight in shining armour for this is a portrayal that has occured in the more traditional crime fictions, rather we are looking at something that defies and subverts (or perhaps highlights) the genre framework. So you're on the right track - just be a bit more expansive in your approach.

Some texts that are useful to look at for this purpose are Dorothy Porter's poem 'A Monkey's Mask' and Ondaatje's book 'Anil's Ghost'.
