Hi can somebody please tell me how to answer this short-answer question

"Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of a legal measure in achieving justice with reference to a current criminal justice issue"

Thanks in advance

Just evaluate the laws equality, accessability, enforceability, and resource efficiency referring to one criminal justice issue.

im pretty sure you would have to base your answer on the syllabus topics for the heading of "effectivness" They would be:

- accessability
- enforceability
- resource efficiency
- equality
- protection and recognition of individual rights
- as a reflection of community standards
- balance of individual rights and community rights

so basically i would start with a case.. you can make it up (i use Law & Order for may cases) and just say in the case of R vs. <insert name here> the law was effective / not effective because....
and then just refer the syllabus headings to your case eg. protection of individual rights - in this case the rights of the accused where protected as police are not allowed to search thier property without a warrant.

obviously this is very basic, but i think thats what you're supposed to do

please correct me anyone if i'm wrong!

you need to discuss an actual issue, not so much a case, like use cases as an example, but make sure you identify a particualr issue, theres been other threads on this

you can do things like
-mandatory sentencing
-decriminalisation of cannibis
-sentencing issues
-technology and DNA

ill try and find the link for you
EDIT: here http://www.boredofstudies.org/commu...page=1&pp=15&highlight=criminal+justice+issue

i noticed on the thread that someone mentioned cybercrime - would that be an appropriate cj issue? would this include white collar crimes such as download movies / mp3's, porno etc? obviously this is bloody hard to enforce, as ISP's like telstra, optus etc. dont wanna just hand out customer info to the cops (although some ISP's are starting to)

a case for this would be (i cant remember the exact details... just make them up) 3 yr 12 students in blacktown studying IT had set up a webpage where you could d'load mp3's for free - when they were caught they got like 3yrs gaol, and a big arse fine... i know thats basic, but i can bullshit in the exam :)

is that what we're supposed to talk about?

Courts is an example. But legal measures are vastly different- using World Order as an example, international law, treaties, conventions, the ICJ, the ICC, Criminal tribunals etc are all legal measures.

Just think of everything that has a law attached and a process that accompanies it- like criminal law there are drug courts, normal courts, tribunals and all that stuff.

Sounds coherent, eh. Good luck.

And also how do i incorporate all those criteria like accessibility, equality, efficiency etc in evaluating the effectiveness of the law when dealing with say the issue of unanimous verdit vs majority verdict?

Could someone please write a short proper response for any cj issue, even in dot points... that will be greatly appreciated

So say federal and state legislation are also legal measures?
