(iii) Compare TWO structures used by animals to produce sound.

This is really cool because you can compare fish, mammals, insects and birds.

For insects such as grasshoppers look at the way that they rub thier hind legs
Fish and vibrations caused by the air (swim) bladder
Birds have a structure (Im not sure what it is called ) too

heres what i have for my summary notes (a basic outline...)

grasshoppers and crickets: stridulation

cicada: chitinous membranes and sound is amplified through the tympana

fish: muscle in swim bladder that that causes vibrations when contracted

bream: rubs teeth together at back of throat and swim bladder amplifys the sound

snapping shrimp: expels a water bubble from within large claw that produces a loud sound

CICADA
-Produces sound through a 'tympanal organ' (thin region)located in the exoskeleton called a cuticular membrane.
-The cicada has more than a thousand tympanal organs used for both making nad detecting sound. Sound is made by the vibration of air through the TYMPANUM(tympanal organ).

MALE FROGS
-Male frogs Croak
-The sound is generated in their vocal sacs and mouth cavities.
-They make sound when air from the lungs is forced over the vocal cords causing them to vibrate. Muscles in the surrounding trunk area contract to give the pressure needed for the lungs to expel the air in this way.

hey has anyone done this question, i am struggling...

The light signal reaching the retina is transformed into electrochemical signals.
Describe the different structures and processes in the retina that can schieve the energy transfromation above????

point i had...
bleaching process with photopsins???

rod and cones structure???
