hi, can someone help me with these questions plz
its about time zones and stuff

1)A plane leaves Perth(32 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT]S, 120 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT] E) on an 8 hour flight to Cape town(33 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT] S, 15 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT]E) at 3:00 pm Wednesday

a) At what time will the plane arrive in Cape town?




2) A flight leaves Melbourne (40
[FONT=&quot]º[/FONT]S, 150 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT] E) at 5.00pm Tuesday on an 18 hour flight to Frankfurt (50 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT] N, 15 [FONT=&quot]º[/FONT]E). Calculate the time of arrival in Frankfurt if it is:

A) daylight saving time in Melbourne

B) daylight saving time in Frankfurt.



plz could someone help, im having trouble with these questions thx :)

1) first add 8hrs to 3.pm
so u would arrive at 11pm perth time
Then the hard part figure the amount of time between perth and cape town, look at time zone diagram (http://www.time.gov/images/worldzones.gif) and u'll find perth is +8 and cape town is +2 so we need to - 6 hrs as were ahead which would make it 5.p.m
2) use the same concept, just adding minus for day light savings.

For the first one to figure out the time difference, you don't look at the map. From the longitude/latidude given you figure out the difference. 15 degrees = 1 hour (we calculate this on the E or W, not the S or N). 120-15 = 105. 105 divided by 15 = 7 hours difference.
So, to calculate the time, you add on the 8 hours in which the flight takes, then add on the 7 hours (or minus, depending on the E/W thing. I can't remember now lol, take a look at a map). :)

With 2, you do the same thing as riah said, but with dst.

First, draw a diagram. It always helps.

Next, work out time difference.
Angle = 120 ÷ 15 = 105°
Time difference = 105 ÷ 15 = 7 hours

Now work out the times. I like to use a two-way table.
Time of departure (in Perth) = 3pm Wed
Time of departure (in Capetown) = 3pm – 7h (time difference)
= 15h – 7h
= 8h
= 8am Wed
.: Time of arrival (in Capetown) = 8am + 8h (length of flight)
= 8h + 8h
= 16h
= 4pm Wednesday

= 3am Wed (summer time)
