Iv'e dropped from yr 11 advanced to yr 12 Standard, i was going ok in advance, probably looking at a band 4.. Now im in standard, im with my friends and it's not so much of a breeze, due to:

1. In advanced i was like a sponge, everyone is sooooo smart and anything i didnt know would be answered in a class discussion and i was getting along fine, my take home essays are excellent but i have a few troubles in exams, not so much quality but quantity.

In standard it seems as if when a question is asked everyone expects me to answer with something incredibly smart, unfortunately im used to waiting for the answers of others,

Does anyone have a clue what i should do?

BTW- it's too late to go back to advanced

well i have no idea, your in a bit of a pickle there. all through school i was in the top english class, but in year 11, i chose standard! its soo easy. i come first with all assessments and all that. Most people say im crazy and go up to advanced, but i like feeling smart, like you i would have only done average in advance. my advice?
just stick with it. People in your class will soon realise that your not as smart as they think and lay off. lol. how bad

lol, i wish that would happen sooner rather than later, so far iv'e had at least 15 people ask for my essays. SO far iv'e had 1 assessment and i came 5th, the top 4 were also advanced students who have dropped.

but its kinda flattering that people are asking for your essays isn't it? look, i can sympathise - i was usually the person everyone looked to to know the answers in class (the curse of having english teachers as parents!) and it's not always good, BUT, in the end it will be good for you. you'll get used to thinking on your feet, which is great for exams and you'll get confidence in your ability to answer things. the thing to remember, though, is that there's no need to feel stupid if you don't know the answer. easier said than done though, i know ;)

Firstly I don't think the situation you are should really be that worrying. I did advanced so I can't really comment much on standard, I can relate to the whole good with take home essays but not so good with exams, but this will improve with practice. Being in standard might actually be good for you, if you say you never answered questions in advanced and now people expect you to, maybe it will give you a chance to give some of your opinions etc. Obviously you won't know the answer to everything, but you won't feel like you don't have to, or can't contribute to discussion due to lack of opportunity. It's good to have people ask for your help and your essays, it's ok to give help, but not too much in the form of giving essays etc. Since you can't move back up to advanced my advice would be just to allow yourself to settle into where you are. After a few weeks your new class will probably get used to you and your ability, and won't expect too much from you...just do the best you can and participate when you can, ultimately you are there to do well for yourself so concentrate on that and I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck this year! :)

Yhe, i've settled down now, and i have to say Standard English isn't a real big challenge, i fix up a few mates essays here and there and i answer pretty much every question in class even though my mates hate it becuase they think im bumb..
