Hi. This thread is most likely in the wrong place, so if someone has to go out of their way to move it.... I'm sorry.

Ok! Newcastle Uni. I'm in yr 11, and when I finish school I want to be a teacher, of either music or english or both, if possible. So for music that means the Con, Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Music, right? But I wanna do english as well.... can I? And what kinda UAI thinger do I need to get into education?

I probably sound like a really annoying little kid, but I'm confused and the careers advisor at my school isn't so crash-hot at careers-advising.... So ANY advice anybody can give me about courses, UAIs, degrees, etc will be much appreciated.

thnx.

Alright, well firstly heres the course outline for bachelor of music/bachelor of teaching:

By the looks of things, it's quite prescribed, meaning you don't get to do any electives. This unfortunately means you won’t be able to do English courses so it seems you have to make a decision on what you want to teach.
It’s probably a good idea to check out other teaching degrees, like bachelor of teaching with either arts or early childhood. What you typically find is you get to do a very small number of music courses in those degrees, however you might not be happy with the amount of music courses ur doing. You would however be able to study english courses.
Basically just check out the course outlines for all the teaching degrees, give them a good read and that'll help you make your decision. I think you’ll find you have to make a decision on either English or music.
Here's a list of education degrees you can do:

Hi, I'm doing English teaching, and unless they've changed things, you can not do English as a minor teaching area, so if you want to do things, the way I figure it, these are your options - keep in mind, I'm not up in the music combinations and it's been 3 years since I've looked at this:

1. You can do the Music teaching degree and afterwards tack on enough English units to make you qualified - which is easily do-able, it will just take a little longer but you can do both.

2. You can do the degree I'm in, B.Teach/B.Arts, major in English and minor in Music - which you should be able to do, we pretty much get free range in our minor strand, if they don't let you, just start complaining to everyone - you can talk to the course conveners next year to check all this.

3. Look at what other unis offer, you may be able to find a better deal, but newcastle does have a pretty good rep for its teaching degree.

Hope it works out for you.
