i have a raw mark of 87 in geography for the year, ranked first out of fifteen, and i have bummed out in the HSC exam. How do they work out my mark????

This is how the process was explained to me:

Ok, ur raw mark is irrelevant. Only ur rank counts. Out of the 15 people that did the exam, the highest exam mark will become your assessment mark (since u are ranked 1st). The mark u got for ur hsc becomes ur HSC mark (duh!). Then they use those two numbers figure out ur pecentage (ie, halve them then add them to get a mark out of 100)

pretty much, unless you were like in front of #2 by 10 marks or something....

robbie does that mean if the person who was ranked behind me canes the exam, i get their exam mark as my assesment, leila would be so cut lol

yes, but they still get that mark as their hsc mark. They would probably get ur HSC mark as their assessment mark, so it's the same thing really.

You also have to remember that the gaps and SD play a major roll in the calculation, big outliers will not be counted or something.

i always thought we weren't supposed to know out raw assessment mark at all hmmmmmm

we dont ever find out our raw assessment mark because it is largely pointless except to figure out rankings.

I'm in a similar situation, except I think that I topped my class of 10 by a considerable margin. What happens if my whole class does pretty shite in the exam?
