question... at what time in history did orchestras evolve into those that we commonly see today?

and another one...

when did the form of "theme and variations" come about?

this is just for some essay (due tomorrow - bleh).

Orchestras.... i don't know much about this but i can help a bit

Baroque orchestras had strings basic trumpet(s) etc, some woodwind but very little brass

Classical all strings, all woodwind and developing brass

romantic orchestras had everything... basically

as technology deveoped creating new instruments they were incorperated into the music as it developed..

im sure others can explain further tho :)

ahh cheers. ok so yeah thats kinda what i was thinking.... so you reckon maybe the full scale orchestras that you see today made their debut in the late classical, early romantic years?
