For anyone interested, there actually exists a type of home-schoolign. The BOS calls it "self tuition" . After much research, and emails, i got some data.

http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/manuals/pdf_doc/ace_manual_02.pdf
SECTION 11.9.2

From their manual:
Candidates not attending a NSW government school, a school accredited
by the Board, an institute of TAFE NSW or a school outside NSW
recognised by the Board, may study Higher School Certificate courses by
self-tuition. Students who are attending any of the above schools or
institutes are not permitted to study any courses by self-tuition.
Candidates studying by self-tuition may study an unlimited number of
units. They are not eligible for the award of the Higher School Certificate
or Record of Achievement but are eligible for a Higher School Certificate
Result Notice. Their results may be used for the calculation of the UAI.
Candidates contemplating self-tuition study should obtain entry forms from
the Office of the Board of Studies. It is the responsibility of these
candidates to complete entry forms correctly and ensure their return to the
Office of the Board of Studies on or before the closing date. Candidates
studying by self-tuition are personally responsible for obtaining copies of
syllabuses, support materials, texts and other references relevant to their
chosen studies.
Candidates studying by self-tuition do not have to complete HSC assessment
tasks and their Result Notice will record only their examination mark(s).
Only the following HSC courses are available for study by self-tuition:
English (Standard); English (Advanced); English (ESL); HSC English
Extension 1; General Mathematics; Mathematics; HSC Mathematics
Extension 1; HSC Mathematics Extension 2; Languages (all courses);
Ancient History; Business Studies; Economics; Engineering Studies;
Geography; Information Processes and Technology; Legal Studies; Modern
History; Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE);
Software Design and Development; Studies of Religion I and II.
Since English (ESL) and Languages (Beginners) courses have eligibility
requirements (see Section 11.12), students undertaking these courses by
self-tuition must provide a signed statutory declaration, witnessed by a
Justice of the Peace, stating that the student meets the eligibility
requirements for these courses.
It is the responsibility of candidates studying by self-tuition to ensure that
they receive an examination timetable. These may be obtained from the
Office of the Board of Studies. No allowance will be made for candidates
who do not attend an examination session because they have misread the
timetable. In addition, as there is no assessment mark available, candidates
studying by self-tuition cannot submit an illness/misadventure appeal.
Candidates studying by self-tuition are subject to the rules of the school or
college where the examination centre has been established.

No assessment tasks. imagine the pressure?
this beats all distance eduction and OTEN. You just need to be ultra self-motivated.

I did Distance Ed in yr 5 cause i went overseas for 6 months. It was so cool there was even a school song it. It went-

We are the Distance Education Primary School
We are striving for excellence
Communication rules
At the Sydney Distance Education Primary School!!

...thats all i can remember.

Its deffiently true that u learn better at home, i did 6 months by myself with the help of my parents and when i came back half way through yr5 i was well ahead of every1 else but the school thought it would stunt my social development if they put me in yr6. Oh the lost years of my life.

CrashOveride, SECTION 11.9.2 is interesting, but it would only 'beat' distance education and OTEN if you were only after a UAI.

"They are not eligible for the award of the Higher School Certificate

Result Notice. Their results may be used for the calculation of the UAI."

I guess it depends what you are looking for.

im seriously thinking about seeing if i can do this.
im only doing three subjects this year, and at my school, there is only four periods a day, so most days, im only at school for about an hour and half everyday, which can get really annoying.
and also, the school i go to they are starting a new program this year where they get the emails of all the students, and email them the work they missed out on from all their subjects if they were away sick.
also because i have insomnia and a very fucked up sleeping pattern, i think it would be easier for me if i were to do that, and if i have any full days at schoo, just go for that.
i got work for the holidays as i missed out on heaps last erm, and i have caught up all that, and done some extra work aswell. like, i can work easy on my own, and its in a comfy environment and im not under pressure in a class full of noisy students who talk all lesson and distract my learning times.

any comments?
I think you'll like it at first, but then the novelty will wear off and you'll miss the social interaction with other students.Along with not having the assistance of your teachers on hand. By the way what school are you from?

the award of the 'Hsc' is just a piece of paper. it doesnt do much for u, unless u want to i dunno...start working str8 away.

the goal of highschool shud be for most ppl entry to uni, so UAI is what its all about.

I agree - that's what I'm after. But I guess some people are unusual and are after something different... I mean, the majority of HSC candidates have no chance of gaining a place at a university based on their UAI - there must be a few reasons why some people who have no chance still do it.

As far as i know, the number of students who do -all- their subjects via self-tuition is virtually zero.

perhaps in your case with your kidney troubles etc it may be good. but if i didn't see my friends everyday when i was doing my hsc i would have gone mental.

i am going to be repeating 3 hsc subjects next year but by correspondence. i think this is a better option over home-schooling/self-tuition

This is what homeschooling creates.
