It's getting lame because I was sending an email to a friend and it required me to verify my account by typing in some letters and numbers for the sake of preventing automated sending of emails.
This means notifications of parties cannot be done easily using Hotmail.

Does this happen whenever you are sending an email, or just to this person?
Iirc, when I made my new hotmail account there was a choice of having a 'captcha' program so that when people send me emails they have to read the distorted image. Maybe your friend has this enabled.

It's only just "getting lame"? You've done well to last so long.
