nothing matters if u rank 1st in everything at the end of the day its u against everyone.

It’s the truth when ur competing against a terrible cohort. It is 100% possible and many do it – like me presently, but at the end of the day if u go to ruse and do terrible, vs do extremely well at a terrible school there’s seriously no better option than the latter. At the end of the day it IS you vs everyone no matter 600+ school or 1st.

My school is partially selective the ppl that do get 90+ r those who r from the selective stream + go tutoring (matrix, project, sigma etc) but in each yr we only have at most 30 kids for selective so out of 160-180 only 30 ppl r doing above the average (thats if all of them r actually doing their jobs ik some selective kids that dont study n just dont care - they were selective in yr 7 when they were ‘nerds’ n they got stuck)

i said max 13 but i think in 24 we got 6 90+ im not sure the school doesnt tell us so they dont make the good selective kids move but ik the band 6s for 24:
14 for math (first time in forever - they were celebrating):
3/4 ext 2, 2/7 ext 1, 7/20 adv, 2/24 for std

3 for eng - only std tho

1 for sciences which was chem (0 for bio, 0 for investigating, 0 for physics, 0 sci ext)

3 business (rest of social science: 0 for both histories, 0 for eco, 0 for legal, i dont remember if we have more subjects but u get it)

im not sure for technology subjects (textiles, food tech, ipt) also idk for vet (hospitality, business services n the rest)

also idk for pe subjects (pdhpe, dance, cafs)

That's pretty good. I think if u can rank in the top 6- 13 ish overall depending on if ur cohort is on the weaker end or stronger end, then u should be fine

Aight imma js say, most ppl here are ignoring the big picture. Scaling does not matter for u. Dont let it bother/influence your descisions. Forget abt it for now. The only reason students in higher ranked schools get high hsc exam marks and atars despite doing poorly in their internals is becasue they have much harder exams in general. Don't believe me? Look at a James Ruse paper. Js focus on figuring out a balanced study routine and ranking first. Going to a higher ranked school will not give u leeway. If u place bottom there, it wont be much different to placing mid to bottom in your current school.

To answer your question. Don't move. It'll just negatively impact your studies and you wont be in a better position. Those schools are ranked highly for a reason- theyre highly competitive and much harder. If you haven't attended there from your junior years, chances are you arent accustomed to their exam style/calibre. Js focus on doing well and scoring high marks. Forget about scaling for now.

I do agree with this but going to higher ranking schools also motivates u, gives u more resources and better teachers that will allow you to improve on your marks which might allow u to get a better external marks. Because even if u are ranked high in a low ranked school, those marks might not equate to high marks in the hsc exams as the tests may be harder and there will be more competition. Going to a higher ranked school might motivate u to do better and to improve ur skills and therefore u might do better overall in ur hsc

But it depends on if u are willing to put in the effort to catch up as it may be worth it, but it if not then it is best to stay at ur current school. From personal experience, if I didn't move schools, even if my marks were high there I probably wouldn't have improved a lot and I would have been worse off now

You are correct and I do agree with you, but as you said, one must be willing to put in the effort. There's too much room for human error to rely on 'motivation.' As for better resources, teachers etc, it takes time for someone to adjust to that new system etc and 1.5 yrs isn't adequate time to get in the flow of things. Hence why a lot of transfer occur during yr9 and 10 (at least from my surroundings coming from a mid-ranked top 150 school). Not to mention the mental impact such a drastic change in surroundings will have on op.

I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't do, but I really do encourage you to consider all facts and make a decision ASAP. Yr 11 is crucial for setting up your HSC subjects, testing your study strategies, getting into a study routine, and most importantly, getting early entry- this erases so much stress when u take the hsc.
