Look at the mistakes you make in the exams, and focus on those. Start from the basics. At this rate you should be studying A LOT if you have't worked for the past three terms. Its your hsc, not the end of the world, so suicide is out of the question

study smarter, not harder (i know that sounds stupid, but it's true)
suggestions: get some more sleep, eat right etc etc (lotsa common sense)
concentrate on the most problematic areas (i.e. stuff you always get wrong)
do a lot of practice (qs for math, essays for eng, all those practice papers wont hurt you)

And if you screw up your hsc, real screw up, not 99.85 OMG IM SO PISSED COZ EVERYONE IN MY GROUP BEAT ME (true story ><), it doesn't matter, because there are more important things in life.

1. drink lots of water. the reason why u are dummer and reaction delay is prolonged whilest ur drunk is because the chemicals in alcohold dehydrates ur brain, hence it transmit signals at a slower pace. So if you drink a lot of water, you will find ur concentration level goes up.

2. study what is the most important first. ie: the question/section with the most marks

3. study what you are worest at

4. do practice papers and give them to teachers

5. believe that what you are learning is not hard. soemthign is only hard if u dont know it, once you are familiar with it then you will think it is easi.

6. dont stress. if you have to cram, then cram it, deal with it, dont stress abt it, cuz if u do you are just wasting time.

dude, dont stress so much abt ur hsc....my sister pretty much failed it....she got a TER of 44 back in the old days before the new hsc came in, and she's done a Communications degree, and is halfway through a graphic design degree. There are always paths u can take which deviate from the norm if you dont do so great in the hsc.

meanwhile, for the hsc, make sure u use the syllabus as a guide to your studying. go through it and tick through each outcome you can do, and then concentrate on the ones you arent so great at.

but u do realise eveyrhting is harder? ... my friend got somehting in the 80s and is doing science or computer science.. now he wants to transfer to economics, but its almost impossible due to his uai (hey dave if ur reading this.. haha)

and my other friend is doing arts and he wants to transfer to economics, and yeah its almost impossible as wel... (hey jimmy if ur reading this.. :p )

so please dont have the mind frame that it doesnt matter if u get a shit uai...... it does matter because say if u change ur mind in terms of course selection, then the lower uai u got, the less options u have. alwayz try ur best, that way at least u dont regret not trying hard. uais do matter, but life goes on

well yeah, it may be harder, but the reality is that now theres a lot of non-uai based colleges that can get you into the same industry/to the career you want. and of course, theres always tafe, which may be better for some career options than others.

e.g. in yr 10 i did work ex at a PR consultancy. now the course i wanted to get into to do this at the time required a uai around 97/98.sthg. they were telling me if i wanted to do it that tafe was a better option because it is so much more practical, and there was also APM which was a college that specialised in PR. i told them that not going to uni wasn't feasible with my parents.. but that's besides the point.

smallcattle, if you're seriously contemplating suicide over that very reason [your parents won't accept you not going to uni], what i said won't help... but take the advice other ppl have given u here and give it all you've got. and like other ppl said, you can always do the hsc again. and remember how young we all are - there is so much more to be done in life :) so much more that lies ahead of you that isn't as shithole as the hsc :) so don't let a score + a piece of cardboard keep you away from that. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Listen more in class and ask teachers. I've got decent marks concentrating on a subject.. I can tell this from talking in class during a subject in maths and getting crap results.. then listening at it all and going really good in tests.

Although, I don't care about the HSC, I'm just there because I have to.

Maybe you are too anxious in your study that you focus more on the length rather than the quality of responses? Hence, not being concise enough. Make sure during the exams, you read the questions very very carefully. Try, to do some practice papers, and ask your teachers to mark it for you to point out the problems. (if they are not willing, we can always help ;))

For maths, practice makes perfect. usually, maths is all about rationality. just think of the problems very very carefully and apply the knowledge you know and you should be fine.

What subjects are you doing exactlly?

The "listening in class" bit may be a teeny bit late to do. Most trials are in about a month's time, so although it doesnt hurt to really LISTEN in class, you might have to do some mroe independent work. When studying, really THINK about what you're doing. What is this information linking to? What sort of questions could I be asked on this section? What should I keep in mind when focussing on this info? Try to really understand what you're learning. this might take getting used to, but once you've got it, then it's like a machine. It just works. Revise in your head. I do this before tests. Instead of taking 50 pages of neatly written notes out, just go over things in your head cos that's what you have to do in the exam. No notes in the exam, so just before the exam, you should NOT be rummaging around with notes.

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of mind maps, flow charts etc etc. They work for some people but they're not detailed enough for me. If I DO make them detailed, then they turn into a wild mess of scribbles :(

you need to work out how you learn best ( e.g. you may learn best visual so make your study maps into mindmaps, flowcharts and stuff that wasd stated above, or you may learn best by listening, so get someone to go through your notes with you or put them on a tape)

once you work out how you learn your best, you will be able to study more effectively

Tilt your head at 45 degrees to the right because its scientifically proven* that this changes the pressure on certain parts of your brain leading to your memory to be increasingly effective.

* Not actually proven, scientifically or otherwise. :D
