i thought the exam was ok, few multiple choice were difficult, the 7 mark question was challenging. Overall much different approach to past papers.
And the introduced species elective questions, the ballast water one took a while for me to think about! :|
How long did it take you guys?

Thought it was pretty easy, a few multiple choice were difficult but after discussing with my classmates after the exam I think im sitting on around 18/20
I'm suprised nobody has been confused about features of buildings that make them resistant to earthquakes because we arent engineers :L
Only reason I could answer that was because I watch Richard Hammond's 'MEGASTRUCTURES' on tv

I'm planning on going into Environmental science.
I remember reading about it in the textbook. Prevent sinking when the soil liquifies, allow shaking but not to the extent that it's too weak and breaks, etc etc.Thought it was pretty easy, a few multiple choice were difficult but after discussing with my classmates after the exam I think im sitting on around 18/20

yeah im thinking on going into geology i wouldnt think you would have to be awesome at maths where are you planning on studying mate?
I had issues with the last multiple choice question - because I thought it could either be the answer about impermeable rock to stop liquid escaping, or the one about the fault. In the end I went with the fault, because it was for domestic waste so there wouldn't have been many chemicals that could come out with the leachate, right...?

I had no idea... I assumed the coal station would cause acid rain, so the answer would be the species that could best cope with acidity...

Umm im planning and really want to go to MAC UNI! cause it closest to my house and the campus and science labs are really nice and modern as well!! if i get into syd ill prob just choose mac cause for me travel time will be a bitch as in 2hrs ish one way! omg! i will die! my maths isnt crash hot. im only average at it.
what about you? which uni are u going to!?
well i want to go to university in victoria but there is shit all geo courses so ill probally and up going to armidale what do you need to get into maquarie?

I was thinking like, Lismore SCU maybe. There's a nice scholarship there, and early entry too.
THE EXAM WAS BLISS!
Loved every bit of it. I thought that the extended response question in the core and Introduced Species were awesome. I think they got to the important parts of the course there. Plus, in the Introduced Species I got to bag out European Settlement for ages. Hehe. And I was so glad that the 7 marker wasn't about the evolution of the Australian continent. Oh, my relationship with that topic <3 I forgot everything about mine site rehabilitation and I wasn't too sure about the earthquake and buildings and stuff. The MC question about the fossils in a cambrian rock bed annoyed the crap out of me. I think it was A. Was tricky. Respect the board of studies for that.
For the option, where it said to organise the data in a 'more scientific way' what did you guys do? I was tossing up between a table and a column graph. Did a column graph. Wasn't sure :/
I kept writing till the end. And in extra booklets While all of my classmates, a grand total of 3, left by the 2 hour mark. Damn supervisors were glaring at me the whole last hour.
And TheWolfsLunch, how the hell do you have 17 Enviro students? Geez.
Or I'll do some sort of Science, like B Advanced Science at Usyd. I totally want to do Environmental Science , but I'm afraid I wont get a job. :'( Oh well, there's always being a science teacher

Yeah some of the questions were quite tricky. On the whole though I found it much easier than the trials. But then again, the CSSA have no idea about the fact that the earth wasn't actually created by god, and all of the natural tectonic occurrences aren't acts of god either.THE EXAM WAS BLISS!

Shit, I didn't even think about graphs. Would have worked much better than the table.
I wrote for the entire exam, had an hour left so I just went back through everything again.
We had some awkward lines and it was the best thing on it's line (the other options were modern history, which didn't run, ancient history, geography, and senior science. And alot of people had at least one science, so they couldn't do senior science because you can't double it up with other sciences apparently.
As far as jobs in the environmental science, there is a massive, massive requirement for them in Australia currently. All the awareness and rehabilitation going on has really opened the field.
And TheWolfsLunch, how the hell do you have 17 Enviro students? Geez.

AND YEAH! mAC FTW! i luv it as it is so close and has a good reputation for earth and environmental students! ahhhhhh yes i had had a look at B environment and sadly found out it was not what i really enjoyed and wanted to pursue, but is defiantly a backup! its more to do on conservation and protection which is all well and good but it does not excite me as much. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU ARE DEFINITELY GOING TO BE SET FOR A JOB! as the shift to a more environmental sustainable society will mean that the WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU! (p.s my friend and uncle both did B environment and got job offers immediately after the completion of uni) so dont you worry about getting a JOB. You are in high demand!
and i will see you on the first day of uni! in about 5 months ish.
