well i've never heard of this before but:

P(1st) = 1/200 * $100 = 50c
P(2nd) = 1/199 * $50 approx = 25c

soo, 75c is her "financial expectation"
but she spent 1 dollar so she loses 25c

Yeah, for financial expectation, you find the probability for each event, mulitply them by their financial outcome, and add the solutions together

Dont know if its to late BUT

40 = k x 60^2
40/60^2 = k
k = 0.0111.... = 1/90

80 = 1/90 x s^2
80/0.011... = s^2
s^2 = 7200
s = 84.8...
Therefore s = C (85 Km/h (nearest km/h)

Hope it helped

good luck all

Hello...sorry who is this??

I have another question...i don't know how to do this one either!!! :(

- Thanks
For proportional questions like this one, change it so that it is in the form X = k x Y

The thing that is referred to in the question as "proportional to" is X, and the other number is Y

So stopping distance is "proportional to". X = 40m

40 = k x 60^2
40/60^2 = k
1/90 = k

Now you've found out k, so you can substitute it into the original equation X = k x Y, replacing the values with what the question is asking (in this case, it is telling you that the stopping distance is 80m, so substitude that in where X is)

(btw 1/90 = 0.11)

80 = 0.11 x Y^2
80/0.11 = Y^2
7200 = Y^2
Y = 84.8528..
Y = 85km/h
Answer is C!

I know someone already answered this, but answering questions really helps me remember myself :p

Or a less confusing looking way...

60 squared : 40 m
--> 3600 : 40m
--> 7200 : 80m
--> root 7200 : 80m

= 84.85....
= 85 km/hr
