Hey everyone,

Ive got a chem practical worth 70 marks on Wednesday. Its on modules 6/7 and is split into 3 sections, 2 of them worth 25 marks and are practical parts, and the last one is worth 20 marks, which is analysing secondary data. How should I go about preparing for this?

Thanks

unless they have told you otherwise, the practicals are most likely to be a titrations for mod 6 and an alcohol heat of combustion prac for mod 7, as these are really the ones that are commonly assessed that i have seen. You can't really practice these at home, but you can prepare for questions on it. I suggest going through all the accuracy, reliability and validity questions for these practicals because there is most likely going to come up in either one or maybe both of the pracs. With the last part, just practice graphing skills and revise all the specific techniques for the pracs mentioned above.

We won't have titrations i don't think, and we covered alcohol heat of combustion yesterday (less than a week away from the prac so it wont be assessed). Thats why I'm struggling so much as to what will be in it. We haven't been told anything, maybe some model building but that's it. Any ideas?

it could be enthalpy of neutralisation for mod 6 and i dont know another prac for mod 7. Also unless they told it isnt titrations it probably is a titration prac.

The most likely module 7 prac is testing to distinguish between compounds, such as the bromine water test to recognise alkenes, using an oxidising agent (usually acidified potassium permanganate) to recognise primary and secondary alcohols, producing gas when adding sodium carbonate or hydrogencarbonate solution to carboxylic acids, testing with litmus, etc
