I don't know if I'm missing something here but I've been asked to make 'appropriate measurements to calculate resistance in components', how is that done?

I will assume that you are talking about an Ohmic conductor, and not a semiconductor or something else. The simplest first-hand method uses Ohm's Law. Apply a measured potential difference across a component, while measuring the current flowing through the component. The ratio of V divided by I is the resistance, in Ohms. Does that answer your question?
