This is a very open question but how do you master the hsc?

I'm starting the preliminary course this year and after reading about the vast number of members on this site whom have attained exceptional ATARs and UAIs, i feel very intimidated lol... especially considering I'm not a naturally talented person
(for a guy like me to get even adequate results I've got to go all out or go home )

Just wondering if you guys would share any tips and hints that have helped assert your success and facilitate your senior years in high school. I also would love to read about different strategies used by current senior students as to how they manage their education, workload, revision etc

Thx in advance guys.

Also is your peformance in the school certificate an indication of how well you'd perform in the hsc?

Preliminary is a time where mastery of study habits and skills is vital. Don't worry too much about the content; just try to get those techniques right so you enter year 12 fully confident of what is ahead of you. There's no one magical strategy that works for all; different methods of studying work for different people and it's up to you to find out what works best for you.

For the note, SC results are never indicative of HSC performance.

Pretty much what Sly wrote.
I like your optimism. Good luck with Prelim and HSC!

You sound like a really grounded kid, I hope all goes well in 2012 for you.

As for advice, mine would be to stay focused, keep your head in the game, and take care of yourself.
And by that I mean eat and sleep properly, think positively.
Getting sick will only set you back. Feeling tired/depressed will dampen your mood and your chances of performing at 100%.
Don't get angry or depressed if things don't go your way. You will have ups and down.

Key ingredient is to be focused when it counts most.

Learn to study efficiently and not waste many hours on a single chapter when it can be done by another person in 10% of that time.

Presentation and organisation helps a lot. Get folders for subjects etc

If you've found that you've been sitting there for 30 minutes and nothing's been absorbed, don't bother and just go relax somewhere away from your desk

the best advice I would give is probably that you should study consistently, although I didn't do that and I'm kinda regretful now
hm, about sc results, don't give a xxxx about it. there was some BOSer who got 99.95 ATAR with lots of band 5s for SC

Just take it easy! I didn't deactivate facebook, stop listening to my music or stop watching the occasional episode of house and dexter. be confident, know what you do and don't know, and work to learn, not to tick the clock. Build a good network of like minded friends and be fearless (to a reasonable extent)!

Just don't be lazy and do all your work. One thing I regret is leaving things until a few days before the due date (or even the night before). Also if you don't understand something, ask your teacher for help even if it's after class has finished.

Worry all the time. Stress as well.

HSC is meant to be one of the worst years of your life anyway. You'll end up in front of a wall in which you'll think of giving up but then for some reason you get that extra bit of motivation* from somewhere and decided to shit on the HSC.

*you gotta find this yourself

you use magical powers
This.
I don't try excedingly hard, do the bare minimum (because that's all I have time for).
I go on facebook and BoS most of my time at home just because I can't do work in this environment.
But I still do pretty well. So, I'd say either hard work or "magical powers" will allow you to get good results. But a combination is good.
Btw, hard work, persistence and consistency will always win out over magical powers... unless you're brain dead. lol
Or unless they're like mega-smart.
