How the hell do you write an english commentary, seriously? it's driving me physically insane.

English commentary is literary criticism. It is your personal interpretation and analysis of a text(s) in the form of an argumentative essay (not a discussion of various perspectives). You need to have your own informed opinion(s) and then prove/validate them using textual evidence and techniques. After all, it is English.
