Raw marks are the marks that u get in ur exams. Scaled marks depend on the subject. Some subjects like chem will scale higher than a subject like visual arts due to chem being more difficult. After scaling these marks are aligned. For rankings: After ur internal exams u receive a rank based on ur performance compared to the rest of ur cohort from all these internal exams. Then in the external hsc exams say u are ranked second and you get the highest score of 93. Then let’s say the person who ranks first gets the second highest mark which is 90. Then u would get to the 90 because it is the second highest mark and then the person ranked first would get ur mark. If you rank first you can ensure that you get the highest mark possible in your cohort so that you won't get someone else's low mark

I have heard different things for different parts, such as alignment happens to raw marks not scaled marks. Scaled marks are also dependent on how well a cohort does with their other subjects compared to that scaled subject. For example if everyone does horrible in chem this year but in other subjects they perform well, chem will scale well. Pls correct me if im wrong

If you don't do good throughout the year and ur internal rank is bad then even if you get the highest score in the hsc externals u still won't get a good overall mark. But if u do bad in the end and ur internal rank is still good if someone scores higher than u, u will get their mark

do internals ----> get rank ----> do hsc ----> get raw mark ----> get aligned mark ----> scaling ----> get your ranks mark in the hsc ----> average of two marks is hsc mark ----> hsc mark is split into being out of 50 ----> now out of 500 ----> percentile ----> atar is your percentile rounded to 0.05

just make sure you have GOOD RANKS and maintain them. In terms of assignments ur mark rlly dont matter as long as your rank is rlly good. You can always redeem in HSC as long as your rank is good
