I've just started my second week of year 11 (and it's already ruining my life lmao), and we've just been given our first assessment notification for the year. It's worth 30% of our overall grade, but the actual test is in 7 weeks.
Normally I wouldn't even CONSIDER needing to start revision this early, but it covers three chapters, and maths isn't one of my strongest subjects. Also I doubt I'll forgive myself if I do badly again this year.
I guess my question is, is it worth starting this early? Or am I just wasting my time and stressing over something that is ages away?

im probably less qualified to say anything cause idk the difficulty of standard maths, but since you said you have less confidence, probably slightly earlier. Maybe 3 weeks before, 4 if your assessment schedule is tight. If the content hasn’t been fully taught then it may be too early to revise exam style questions cause you want to maximise the limited practise questions you might have. I might also recommend dedicating a little time to revising and practising after each chapter, and also taking a look at completed chapters previous as I find maths is better when looking back. Ofc a lot depends on how busy you are and how much time you have to direct to maths. I’d describe optimal practise as low-medium throughout the term, medium after finishing a topic, and high in the chosen period before exams. But if it doesn’t feel right for you then try other strategies that do work!

Start now. Make sure you really take in all the information your teacher gives you, and weekly reviews of the content you learn will be a lifesaver - Do chapter/topic reviews from all different textbooks as well. For a test with three topics, I would wage that revision is the most important thing you can do, though that becomes personal as well. I tend to forget things I've studied in-depth incredibly quickly.

Like what C2H6O said, I wouldn't begin doing exam style questions just yet.

In terms of memorising, make sure you not only know your formulas, but have an even better understanding of where they are derived from and how you can manipulate them.

It is most definitely not a waste of your time.
