I'm not talking about YOUR ranking from the school, I'm talking about the rank of the school itself. How important is that to the UAI?

A first place is worth alot trust me.
Why?
I was placed 1st in 3 out of my 5 subjects so I was wondering why it matters so much

One's school's past or present performance has no bearing, whatsoever the magnitude, on their performance.

The ranks published by the Daily Telegraph et al. are determined by the school's performance, they do not affect individuals' performance.

hey i didnt do as well as i needed for my hsc
i got
business - 84
eco - 82
eng adv 87
eng ext 1 - 42eng ext 2 - 38
legal - 86
math adv 56

i know maths wont count obviously, but my rankings for the other subjects at school were like in the top 6. will that scale me up at ALL?
does it have a significant bearing?

I was ranked 100-odd and still got 88 internal mark for english. So i think school's ranking/etc does have some relevance.

That wasnt my question, I mean each SCHOOL has a rank against the OTHER SCHOOLS.

Eg:
Someplace High 45/600(schools) in Ancient

How important is that sort of stuff?

I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about but I think
I go to a fairly highly ranked school and anyway all my internal
marks have been bumped up significantly... I guess this will affect
my UAI if thats what you mean

My internal marks were "bumped up" significantly as well, however this was more due to the harsher marking at my school rather than its "school" ranking.

I think the school ranking is more for entertainment/statistical purposes than for anything else, really. However I did hear that the top three schools or so per subject receive slightly higher scaling advantages, however this might be just a myth...

As PI and Lazarus have said it has no effect at all on your UAI
