I think relying on the perceived prestige of Usyd to make up for the shortfall in quality teaching or graduates is rather myopic. Its ironic that this prestige has meant that Usyd has rested its fat arse on its laurels and is lagging behind other universities in terms of innovation. UNSW is the recognised leader in Commerce & Economics and at best USyd comes second for teaching and research.

lol take it easy... look at teh graduate destination surveys for each uni.. in terms of employment they are equal....


and lol the onyl reason uts gets heaps of accounting grads recruited is cuz alot of the cadetrship people goto uts cuz of its location and that revamps its sstatistics alogn with the b accounting program...

so yeh.... usyd and unsw there isnt much difference i thikn its more important to focus on other factors, like social life, ease for you t access it... the campus life... shti like that... then focus on getting the marks.... it wunt matter much...

Seraphim's just trying to shitstir, one can't help but feel he has never experienced commerce at usyd and is only bagging it out due to his own insecurity. I concede that a recent US survey ranked unsw as on average the no 1 accounting school in asia pacific, but seraphim is creating (or trying to create) the perception that usyd is a second rate faculty which rides on its prestige when that cannot be further from the truth. One only has to read the baseless potshots he takes at usyd in the "B commerce at Usyd or UNSW" in the university general forums to realise how baseless his arguments are.

Dude, as others have said, your opinions are completely misfounded and you are riding on the popular belief that UNSW commerce is better than Usyd simply because its UAI entry is higher (which is due to demand and number of places offered rather than quality). This simply is not true, in fact both are pretty much on equal standings in the comm department regardless of what u have said in ur post. Its your marks at uni that are more important, rather than which uni u go to, so i think ur priorities are completely messed up.

Yes... one student decides to use a resource published by a professor from another university and that somehow makes the entire faculty inferior...

I know that the unsw school of accounting uses abacus, an accounting journal based in the usyd faculty, while usyd also uses resources published by unsw professors e.g. my economics lecturer often recommends we read extracts from stegman's books (cuz mctaggart can't explain anything to save his life). Both faculties have great respect for each other, unlike certain students.

as others said, it's basically the prestige in going to a big uni
as well as it being close to home
i doubt any would really care if the education/teaching wasn't so hot. besides it's commerce, you don't need lecturers to spoon-feed students.
Most comm students i know tend to jig alot anyway. 15 hours week is too stressful i guess :-\

Where the hell does class of 04 'hear' all these rumours? If anything the quality of teaching is going uphill, although most commerce subjects (1st year ones anyway) are crammable so you don't really need someone to teach you...
