I used to work at coles. I didnt like it -- no particular reason, it just wasnt me. I just got a casual job at the local library though (haven't started yet). I cant wait. Its more than double the pay i got at coles, plus itll be quieter and probably easier too. It brilliant on all accounts -- so sucked in. I know you wish you worked at a library.

how old are you 60? :p

*stares @ number 22* can you remove my demerit points
I'm in my early 20's.

I just have a habit of having 2 or 3 jobs at once, and every summer I usually find myself working in a new job, unless I end up playing Rugby over in Europe for that 3 month break. The only jobs that i've held for more than 3 months include my job at an indoor sports centre which i've had for 7 years now, I work part-time casual for an engineering firm and have ended up being a qualified welder.

I'm not the sort of person who worked at Woolworths for 4-5 years while I'm at uni, I ended up working all sorts of temporary jobs since I was 15.

Offically two.

Unoffically, three. My first job doesn't count because I wasn't actually 'employed', but more of on a trial thing that I never saw the end of because they'd demand that I stay back until 2 or 3am on a school night. Never saw the end of the four-month induction.
christ 4 months?

At my old job we has a 3 hour induction period where i learnt stuff...

Had to update mine

1. Working at my parent's restaurant (this has been on and off for ages, depends on when I am in town)
2. Barista/cashier at a cafe
3. Food and Beverage for Cirque du Soleil
4. Harvey Norman Electrical Cashier
5. Hospitality agency casual (barista, bar, waitressing- an on and off job that is really flexible- I still have this job)
6. Coles on the checkouts
7. Tutoring HSC students (also on and off throughout the year)
8. Working at a bar for family friend before moving to uni
9. (Starting this week) Guest Services Attendant at Bridgeclimb (handing out the suits and talking to people about safety etc)

I haven't included any work experience/volunteering stuff I have done for uni e.g. right now I do news at a community radio station.

I hope to be like Raiks and have worked in lots of different jobs.... I can't think of anything worse than doing the same part time job for years and years because for every job I have had it has been new experiences and I have kooky stories from each job..... journalism is a good career though for people who like to be transient because journos switch jobs all the time and you can move around a lot within the industry itself.

Just be careful because lots of jobs sometimes can make you look like you don't know what you want or that you are hard to work with. Also when you turn over jobs a fair bit it looks to a prospective employer that you might not stick around for long and so any training they pump into you might not be returned in service so you are less likely to get hired. It's the same with degrees, a wide range of degrees might make you look better educated/well read but it can also look like you don't know what the heck you want to do and I have seen resumes from people with several masters where they might not even mention one for fear of being overqualified for a position :)

Yeah I know that can be the case, so often I tailor my resume to a certain job e.g. place more emphasis on the retail positions I have had when I am going for a retail job and don't mention some of the hospitality jobs I have done, vice versa for a hospitality job. I'm pretty concious of that when I apply for jobs- plus a couple of those jobs have been on a short contract basis (e.g. cirque du soleil) and two of them were from Albury (so moving 700kms away is usually a good enough excuse for leaving a job) plus I have held a few of them simultaneously so it's not as bad as it seems. The fact is, most places don't even call my referees.... I haven't had a problem so far, so we will see. But I do agree with you.... it always crosses my mind what people might think when the average time I stay in a job is about 4 months, but for some reason they don't seem to process that thought it to "they might quit here after 3-4 months as well"..... strange.
