Use the fact that |z - (a + ib)| = (x - a)² + (y - b)² and you should end up shading the region where
-π/4 ≤ arg z ≤ π/4 and x ≤ 1 both hold.

|z| ≤ |z - 2| where z = x + iy

x² + y² ≤ (x - 2)² + y²
x² ≤ x² - 4x + 4
4x ≤ 4
x ≤ 1

Seriously though, in my other reply I wasn't trying to simply 'answer the question'. There are a lot of etheral techniques that people use for complex locus questions so I figured it might be helpful for you to see a solid algebraic approach which you can use on other questions that you come across.

Formula for the exact value of pi: pi = circumference on 2 lots of the radius.

If you notice the power series representation of arctan(x) is x - x^3/3 + x^5/5 - x^7/7 + ..., let x=1, arctan(1) is pi/4. This is a very slow way to calculate pi, though.

pi = 365.24 sqrt (x + pi - 28)^2 / 365.24 + 254 ^2 / 64516 - 1

where x = 28

this is based on 365.24 being the number of rotations of the earth completed in one solar year, trust me, it works

My teacher has only ever taught the subject once before...but then again there are only two of us in the 4u class...does anyone else have such a small class? it seems that every other school has heaps...

At my school we have quite a lot who do it but my class only has 3 people in it. One could argue that the extra teacher time is a bonus but we're pretty much in the same place given our reduced number of periods.

As in, I have 6 a week in a 3U class and 2 a week in a 4U class whereas most students doing 4U spend all their time in a 4U class and I think they get to spend a lot more time on 4U material and the links between 3U and 4U.

we get 3 lots of 72min periods per fortnight of 4unit...the other 9 periods per fornight are in a 2unit or 3 unit class

Before I decided 4 unit was a no go for me, we were doing 1 hour/week. Mixing that with no homework for it whatsoever == very bad marks for topic test
