Thanks for your replies everyone. At my uni, all units are worth 3cps. I'm not exactly sure what this means, but if anyone could tell me the meaning in relation to my situation then I would be very greatful!

this semester I did 9 subjects (33cp) - 23 contact hours.

8 subjects per semester
According to my tax liability notices and my uni paper work I am doing 8 subjects per semester. At a standard 8 credit points that would be 64 per semester I guess. Which counted by the tax office as being a 1.000 EFTSU load per semester, all externally while working a full time job. I am accumulating around 6 grand worth of HECS/PELS a semester for it too.
It's great, passed all 8 last semester, hopefully do the same this semester although i've had to ask for extensions.
