Do Teachers have the power to destroy your HSC

You know how in some HSC courses you have a choice of the topics you want to do. Well i was looking forward to studying Technological change and World order when my teacher said were studying Workplace and Family. Like wtf man
Legal Studies was one of my best subjects but its gonna be so boring if we do that next year, and i know i wont near as good as i would if i did what i had the passion for.

dont we get a vote or something?

generally the teacher get to choose what you get to study :( but i reckon if you get the whole class to whinge about it maybe she'll change her mind.

That's like whinging to an ancient history teacher who knows Greece that you want to study Egypt.
Suck it up.
He/She obviously specialises in this area. Thus, it'll probably be more interesting because of the higher level or knowledge and passion the teacher brings to the fore during the lessons.

Don't be a dramalama. This wont "destroy" your HSC.

And again, I say, suck it up.
My teacher for Society and Culture fell pregnant at the end of the preliminary course and we've been taught by a geography for 75% of the HSC course.

My ancient history teacher got a job offer at a university, which he took, leaving us to unlearn all the Egyptian history he taught us and get our head around the Greek stuff our new teacher specialises in.

Shit happens.

I doubt your teacher is as unqualified as you beleive her to be.

most teachers from 40 years ago went to 'teachers college',
which was a free course in teaching i believe.

so all the people who didn't know where they were heading in life just went there.

Hey, i know where you're coming from, i did both family and workplace this year and it was not very fun, BUT, it will only affect you're HSC if you let it.

In the end, legal is boring yes, but a very easy way to pick up good marks in your exams, take advantage of this and dont let it get you down.

If you're really worried, you may be able to ask you're teacher if it would be possible to do another topic, we got to choose ours in Ancient History no problem, so legal might be similar in that way.

Oh also, technological change and world order are really hard to find information on compared to family, so it may end up working in your favour.

Uh, I highly doubt that this would 'destroy your HSC'. Although, I agree that students should get a say in what optional topics they study, maybe you should speak to her/him again and you could sort something out? But dude, trust me this won't destroy your HSC results, if anything it should help them. Workplace and Family are the more popular choices to study and therefore have more resources on them. Technological Change have hardly any, and information has to be found through articles instead of textbooks.
Anyway, you're only in year eleven, wait until year twelve, you may have a change of heart.

So what happens when the students choose a topic that the teacher doesn't know e.g. if my Ancient History class had a say they would choose Egypt and what I know about Egypt is that they built pyramids. On the other hand, having studied Greece and Rome at University I feel that I can maximise my students marks in those topics whereas Egypt I would have no chance to mark essays etc as I would have to spend that time actually learning the content to the degree where I feel comfortable to teach it.

This is why teachers choose the options and not the students - they choose topics they enjoy and most importantly, know.

Pretty much get over it kid. We've all done topics we hated.

In Bio they made us do Communication. Do you know how much I hated studying the eyeball? THIS MUCH.

And it gets worse at uni, expect to do a tonne of stuff you really don't like. I don't enjoy boiling 30 samples of urine, but I have to do it.

Anyway, she's not ruining your HSC. If you can't handle all aspects of Legal Studies, even if it is a topic you hate, then maybe you're not cut out for it.

Chill, I said get a say, not decide entirely.

And this is what you would tell them when/if they questioned you.

At my school some children were told not to do math because the teacher didn't like their SC results.
The children who chose it anyway have been kicked out for reasons unknown.
Even the other teachers have their back up about it.
Some people like to know more than that 2+2=4. Why aren't we aloud to try?
It is not right. The head of math should be fired as far as i am concerned.

O M G .

Um, Obviously theres a reason why they were kicked out.....

If they didnt go good in their SC its highly likely that they won't have went well in their maths course for HSC.

Hence, why they were kicked out.

However since your already convinced its a conspiracy....... ill agree with you.
The teachers are colluding with each other to minimise your marks as much as possible. They also wish to prevent you from gaining intelligence by not teaching you math. This is a part of a wider government agenda and partially due to the global financial meltdown.
