if she said this very recently, i guess its more or less acceptable.. 6 hours from now to the hsc per day sounds A OK

6-8 hrs is good however if your behind with the study (like myself) a few more extras hours wouldnt hurt - provided that you take breaks in between.

does read through notes from the marking centre count as studying?

NO, unless you're learning from it and it can be used for the exams.
