Yes, first year is rounded and you don't focus in any specific sub-discipline. I personally didn't feel it was that much different from high school. The maths was about the same level but there was just more of it.Yes I completely agree with you on that, but most first year chemistry subjects will have you doing many sub-disciplines. Well from my experience anyhow. Are there universities that offer specialised first year chemistry subjects? Would be interesting to know.
Second year is when the maths starts picking up when you meet thermodynamics.
