each university will have a separate application procedure which you'll be able to find out about from their website. have a look around the 'future students' sections.

E.g.

Macquaire Uni: full fee scholarship for international students with UAI at least 95 (several years ago). Of course there is an interview.

ANU also has one like this.

Uni of Mel has 'Study in Mel' scho.

Uni of Syd: none I suppose, I mean, no full fee. Only some 5 grand ones for 99.95+, etc.

UNSW: up tp 5000 but mostly 2000. That's what I know for international students.

With local people, they just apply for HECS, yeah?

Do you need a high UAI to apply for a scholarship? Or do you also need to have commitments like debating, competition, community service?

Perhaps try for on-campus living scholarships, I know UNE does them.
Full or partial, and then dump your uni fees on HECs. Or rent assistence is available via centrelink.

You need a combination of both. Obviously they arent going to give a scholarship to an idiot just because they have done lots of extracurricular activities, but they wont give it to someone who isnt and all rounder either.

That said, it is easier to bullshit extracurricular stuff than intelligence

Have a look around at some uni's scholarship pages - most do offer some kind of assistance/scholarship to people with financial problems, even if it isnt a full scholarship. Plus, I dont think they will require as many 'other commitments' as it is for financial assistance as a pose to normal scholarships who are given even to people who would have no trouble paying for uni.

If you dont get one you should be okay if you go through HECs. You only have to start paying for your uni fees once you are earning a specific amount each year (im not sure on the exact amount) and then it comes straight out of your income so it doesnt feel like you actually have to fork out all this money.

Anyway, if you do apply for any scholarships, good luck :)

if you can't go to uni without a scholarship than you definitely need to consider equity scholarships.

apart from that there's cadetships and traineeships on offer with commerce and finance, while you have co-ops for unsw and uts and most other unis. with co-op you need a good academic record but its the extra-curricula and interview that really counts.

there's academic ones too such as scientia scholarship at unsw but they are harder to get
