Hey Guys,

I Just came across this question regarding tension. I am a bit confused on how to calculate tension in engineering. If anyone could solve the problem that would be great.
Thanks.

Tension is defined as a force which tends to stretch something. Basically it's just the force acting along the axis of the cable. Once you acknowledge that its's just a force, you can do the problem like a normal moments problem:

Sum of moments around the pin = 0
0 = + (150*100sin60) - (15*100cos60) - 20T
T = (150*100sin60 - 15*100cos60)/20
T = 612N
