For people who have completed the course or are doing it now, how do you do well in it and what are good ways to study for it?
I really want(and also kind of need) to get a band 6 in the subject, so how much time per week should I spend on it and what should I do over the holidays as well?
Also what do you do if you don't have a good teacher, should you just do heaps of past papers and revision?

Thanks :)

1. Learn the syllabus
2. Has your teacher marked the HSC for business studies?

If so do past papers/practice business reports, and hand them in for feedback.

Yea, my teacher marks the HSC, the problem is I think he marks too easily, especially compared to another business studies teacher in the school, but I'm not too sure. But I think I will start doing that, thanks :)

Read this, if you haven't:

I probably didn't have that great of a teacher either and I managed to get a 96 in Business Studies, so a not-so-good teacher definitely won't stop you from doing well. Business Studies is definitely a subject that allows people to self-study/independently study and still do extremely well.

Summarising how to do well in Business Studies:
1. Multiple Choice - Section I
2. Short Answers - Section II

To excel in these sections (as well as Section III and Section IV) of trials and the HSC exam, it's important to have a good set of syllabus-based notes (and then do some past papers). Definitions, examples and explanations should all be covered within your notes.

Here's the syllabus: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/business-studies-st6-syl.pdf

3. Business Report - Section III

Master the art of Business Report writing. Structure your headings around the syllabus headings/dot-points. Keep referring to the given scenario in the question, whilst applying syllabus terminology/concepts within your business report.

Practise with past papers. But essentially, once you master the art of Business Report writing, you can consistently score a 17-20/20 if you answer the question/scenario on the day.

4. Case Study Essay - Section IV

Have real life case studies ready for every section of the syllabus. It's okay to use hypothetical case studies if you mind-blank in the exam.

The syllabus itself is basically your MUST-MEMORISE-HANDBOOK for the subject.
