What's an effective method of drawing links between two texts? I often find myself making superficial links using words such 'similarly' or 'in contrast'.

Synthesizing within essays a skill which requires time and patience to imbibe. Most often, students master it just before the HSC.
Remember, your links are essentially an indicator of the extent to which you are ENGAGING, thus answering the question/stimulus. So, superficial links can be easily descried.
In order for your links to be competent, ensure that you continuously refer to the premise of the statement and link to, for instance, context for Module A.
Ideally, you should be linking throughout your essay. However, most B6 students just link at the end. So, utilise connecting words (those mentioned above).
