Friendships have been broken because of group assignments.

they aren't your friends if they fuck you over and give you all the work.

just straight up tell tutor/lecturer that your groupmates aren't putting any effort in and usually if theyre not a prick they'll adjust their grades accordingly and not go "tough titties"

Of course, but but 1) it doesn't mean much if you find that out after the fact, 2) it's the same as friendships breaking down from living together. Some people just don't work well together even though they are friends outside that realm.

I find in group assignments, it helps to lead by example. Most people seem to be willing to contribute if that if someone else is making effort as well.

Thanks for all your replies. An update on how it went: One guy ending up dropping the unit just before and then one other person was away sick for the week leading up to presentation day and on the day as well. So out of a group of 5, only 3 of us presented it and did any actual work on it.
Oh and the one time everyone was available to practice, just as we were about to start the fire alarm when off in the library so we were all kicked out ): So didnt get to go over it ):
