Hey guys, i'm not sure if that workshop on how to reference has already occured or not, but could anyone tell me how to reference correctly? I heard you can get screwed over pretty badly if you don't do it right. Thanks - muchly appreciated.

There's two familiar methods of referencing - the Harvard and Oxford systems. If you look them up on a search engine it should show you basically how it works - one has in-text references and the other has footnotes..

Different lecturers may have different preferences so make sure you find out. Often the faculty website should give you information about correct referencing too.

go to library.uws.edu.au

click on the link :eek:nline resources
then click for citing resources.

they have all your referencing needs including APA, harvard etc.

if u go to your campus library you can find journals as well that give you more detail on what to do if so and so happens.

i learnt this from going to unistep program currently, so feel free to browse that library website to learn more...

if u have writing skills or mathematic problems, go to the learning skills unit on your campus for help. they are really nice people!!

oxford and harvard are huge ivy league unis in the U.S.
They are a helluva lot more prestigious than UNSW and Monash

u can buy a book, which will tell you how to do it. You usually get it at ur orientation. or your first day of classes.. if not ask ur tutor or look at the co-op.

I kept getting in trouble in Sociology for using Oxford referencing instead of Harvard referencing. Gay.

Go the footnotes.

Harvard is inserting the author and book title within the essay itself. Oxford is using footnotes. Then a bibliography at the end of both.

There will be examples in your subject handbooks given in your first lecture.

That's right, its plagiarism and/or collussion. THe university by-laws mean that you may be expelled from your course.
