well, I can't really say, because I didn't go on the cruise, had an 8am lecture in the morning the next day.

But I did hear that some fresher guys went nude on the boat cruise.

What I can say is that everyone that came back from the cruise was drunk in some form, and many had their rooms trashed. In one case one room was filled with 30 cm of sand and another got turned into a jungle.

btw where are you hearing all these stories from? It's kind of hard to get any work done, as you can imagine

Its a shame you couldn't go. I was interested to learn that so many senior gals pick up the fresher guys...usually its usually older guys and younger girls, not vice versa.

A girl in my law sem is from wesley. She had an hour's sleep last nite and had no chance to do any of the readings. She reckons one can't pass while staying on campus...I think they wouldn't offer residence if that was the case!

How's your course going otherwise?

Is the wesley law student you are talking about , the one with the blonde hair, blue eyes?

I expected the senior girls to be the ones picking up after all, they are quite rowdy due to their previous college years. I read somewhere that more students fail while living in college than any other means of accommodation, and I can see why. As you say, so much for offering residence

I'm still managing to get a decent amount of work done per day, you just have to make choices about your social life. If you can;t control yourself then college definitely isn't for you. You can participate in some college events but not all, otherwise you will fail. contrary to most ppl in the college I've been getting about 8-9 hrs sleep per night even with all the noise and social parties outside of my room. I've limited myself to one party per week which is usually on friday night cause I have nothing on the next morning.

Another distracting thing is that whenever I'm studying I always get friends ringing me up from inside the college or knocking on my door to have a chat, making it more difficult to get work done.

I'm enjoying my course, adv maths, adv phy, and adv chem are all pretty interesting but I'm finding accounting very boring more so due to the fact that the lecturer is martin. I've got an acct asignment where I have to research News Corp Ltd, which I'm hoping to start pretty soon, as long as I don't get sidetracked in college.

How's law going, I hear you have to read like 60 pages a week or something?

No its not the blonde/blue-eyed law student. Haven't even met her yet.

I'm impressed with your studious resolve (but at least the fact you're getting interrupted constantly means you've made lots of new friends...which is good ) I'm not living in res and I'm already feeling pressured to do no work (Only the fear of losing my scholarship is motivating me ). There are at least 3 cool things to do each night - and thats not even counting external clubs/bars/concerts etc! Arghhhh. Oh well...all in good time. There's another 5 years left of this or at least for me.
Have you been home yet? How often will you go back/how often do u speak to your family and friends? Are they worried about your working conditions? Arghhhh you're so brave to move away!

Ohhhh accounting. Yeah the 2 hour lectures are killers. I had mine 2-4 yesterday after starting at 9am. I kept having my eyes close involuntarily on me. Thank heavens for "interval". I crammed as much sugar into me as physically possible, and managed to remotely "enjoy" the second part. I actually quite like martin - he knows what he's doing and is very thorough,structured and organised.

I am actually loving law. Up until yesterday the lectures/seminars were rather tedious, but they've improved. The reading, while onerous is realllly interesting - reassuring me quite emphatically of my decision to do law. I am doing about twice as much work for law as I am for my 3 commerce subjects combined though...Although i'm doing COMM/law it feels much more like comm/LAW atm. Also because its easier to make friends with law students, socialising with them more also emphasises the subject disproportionately. I think my parents are becoming concerned I may actually decide to be a lawyer. I think all my skills were tested when I had to muster some positive comments about econometrics just to convince them that yes, I was doing another degree too

I haven't been home yet, by train it would take me 8 hours to get back, which is very inconvenient. My parents aren't too worried about the college situation, they think it's good preparation for later in life when you go out and work where there will be lots of other distractions (eg. renting, paying bills etc) just like college.

Yeah my course goes for 5 years as well. I just had an accounting tutorial which was the most boring ever, the tutor was the worst teacher I have come across in my life. Hence I changed my timetable today, so I now have friday's off, even with a 25 hour week.

Whenever I'm in an accounting lecture the best part of it is the mid-break , martin's ok I guess, he just seems too feminine though if I could use that word

Law "shudders"


I don't think I could cope with it. But accounting is the type of subject which you can cram towards the end, because the work material is so easy to learn. I could not have gone to any lectures and I would still know the same amount of accounting material I know now. You can't do that with maths, physics or chem though, because they deal with more complicated, thought-provoking concepts.

The science lectureers are so much more interesting and enthusiatic about what they teach than the commerce ones. The commerce ones just seem so lifeless, dead, and boring.

I've got to start my accounting assignment soon before I leave it to the last minute, which I usually always do

Yeah Martin is rather "feminine" isn't he...

I also changed my friday accounting tute to get fridays off (but hey - you're on campus anyway... ). When did u change ur tute to? But don't stop going to lectures yet, accounting gets *much* harder. I'm so confused with dr/cr and thats about as basic as it gets! What company have u got for your assignment? I am due to delve into the delightful world of orica

I wouldn't generalise about the lecturers either, its pick of the draw. None of my friends doing sci like their lecturers while i really like my metrics lecturer, quite like martin and rather dislike my econ lecturer (tho i will keep my mind open, hoping for an improvement ) I also find the lectures in which i've made/found friends are usually more interesting, so maybe they'll improve over time as i get to know more people?

It's a shame you can't go home more often , though you're lucky your parents are so cool with it all

I changed my tute to Monday 3-4pm in Merewether SR3. It's good though cause I finish on thursday at 3pm which gives me time to travel back home now. By changing my timetable I practically missed most of my tutorial but it was going over material I already knew.

Hopefully I will have a different tutor now in which case accounting tutes will be less boring. I've actually made quite a few friends in my tutes and I didn't think I would.

Yeah my parents are pretty cool with me living in college, I guess because they know I'm not the all year, all day party type of person.

Hey Timmii i think we have the same lecturers for all the commerce subjects, not that it's particular surprising considering how large lectures are. I have Martin for accounting and he does seem to know a fair bit. It was good for that representative from CPA to come along for the tuesday 11-12 lecture at bosch lecture theatre 2. Tig makes an otherwise dull and hard subject seem worthwhile to learn. But i think i know which microeconomics lecturer you are talking about. Is Andrew Wait. He's really strict isn't he. i hate for my phone to go off.

uh no, i have don wright for micro (stream 6 ) and i have accounting on thursdays 2-4 so no cpa rep tig and martin take all the lectures for their subjects which is why i think u thought we may be in the same lectures Would have been cool otherwise tho....could've played "which one is she?" with the other 300 ppl present!
